Man on the Street - Volumes 5 and 6

Updates, bitches.  Maybe a little late, but still, UPDATES!

First up, Matt.

"Built to fly", these dudes (yes, 3 had shaved legs) are no joke. Wish I had WiFi in port Elizabeth to update on a great Brazil vs Ned game and a heart breaking fan zone viewing experience watching Ghana grab defeat from the jaws of victory, but its a little late for that. Back in the states for the 4th. Hot dogs. Vuvuzela. Drained. Maybe you can use a photo I got.

Cheers,

Matt

Next, a late-breaking tale from Travis.

even though i'm not in south africa i thought i would give you a man on the street report.

watching the dutch game in my holland scarf and orangest shirt was amazing. possibly the second best game of the cup behind the usa/algeria game. i saw it at a bar in va. beach that was filled with brazilian fans. we didnt get there until after the first goal and getting to halftime at 1-0 felt like an accomplishment. robben looked terrible. he kept trying all this tricky shit that didnt work for shit. i had no idea what the fuck he was doing and it was annoying. luckily he redeemed himself later on in the game off the corner. how they didnt score in the last minute when it was 3 on 1 i will never understand but whatever, they won. it was awesome. i jumped around a lot and waved my scarf. HUP HOLLAND!

the second game i watched, drunkenly, at my girlfriend's parent's house. i was both happy and sad. happy because gyan fucked up his pk in overtime that could have ended it. he sent us out of the cup (even though it was our own damn fault) and i wanted him to feel my pain...and he did for sure. suarez made the best decision of his life. i was extremely happy for that decision even though i kind of wanted an african team to do well i couldnt really root for ghana when they sent us home. then the shootout. gyan definitely made up for his miss with that sick pk. the uruguay keeper didnt do anything special, the ghanaian shooters just shit the bed.

i have mixed emotions about the result. i wanted to see ghana go home and at the same time i wanted them to advance. i think it would have been better if my new rooting interest (netherlands) would have dominated the shit out of them and sent them home but i dunno. oh well. the arg/ger game tomorrow should be amazing. that side of the bracket is stacked. i cant see netherlands losing to uruguay but who knows who their opponent in the final will be. it could be any one of 3 teams (sorry paraguay, you made your country proud but you are not up to par with the rest of your bracket).

i'm looking forward to the next 10 days.

Travis

oh and if any of this doesnt seem to make sense, its because i got drunk as fuck watching my oranje beat the piss out of the dirty selecao.
